Everyone should send notes and mail to my friend, Dave, who is at this moment in the middle of the war in Iraq. He is smart and noble and he�s looking at the things most people don�t while he�s doing the job he�s been assigned to do. Also his diary is a good read, because he writes about the things he sees with his eyes as well as with his mind�s eye. And there�s something that has changed in his writing voice that could only come from being out there�and it�s fucking inspiring. Click a few entries back and you�ll find he�s planting a garden under a leaking pipe in the middle of a war. And if you knew how unassuming and modest he was, that small act would be even more striking.
And I know a ton of friends I have on here are against the war and would maybe find sending notes to him a conflict of interest, but I am sure it is not. The reason a lot of us are against the war is because we care about people. Dave is good people.
