I used to make my Barbies "do it." It wasn't like I was fixated on sex at an early age or anything. I accepted early the idea that marriage, sex, and love was connected. My Barbie and Ken would meet at the park and fall insanely in love. The next day they would elope, and that night they would begin making Ken Jr.

A girl's world in youth and maturity is bombarded with sexless sex. It goes from stories like my own involving anatomically absent dolls doing the deed, to romance novels, which are simply the epic tales of pre-coital anticipation and foreplay. We are advertised to, preached to, and taught to think about all the realms around sex most of our female lives. Being a feminist, protecting yourself from or trying to having a baby, or avoiding rape are all concepts about sex, but not actually it. A woman in a peep show booth is almost unheard of; that is, unless she is the peep show. We can be accessories, but not be active observers.

We are the reason that men grimace at douche commercials. Those belong to us. So, we are not afraid of talking about sex, as long as it is not the actual details of the act. It is as if the whole climax of a story has been removed for us.

In 1984, the novel, the women are given the task to create pornographic novels for the Proles, because is believed that they will not be affected by it. Yet, it is Julia that bravely propositions many men, including Winston for sex while knowing it can be punishable by death. Even Orwell saw this paradox.

And I am not even saying this is some sort of unbreakable law, and that there are not exceptions. I am actually saying that there are exceptions. Women are animals along with men. They want these things. But it is just that. These exceptions are simply that. They are unusual just by simply being a minority.

Look, I am not trying to beat the drum of womanhood. I am not passing blame. I am not even really making a judgement. I am just making observation. Our daughters are raised with sex on the forefront, with the censorship of thrill and enjoyment.

Word of the Day: blithesome- gay, merry
